How we work
Editorial Review Policy
This policy describes how we select, review, and score betting products, and the standards we hold ourselves to in doing so.
Our approach in summary
Every product reviewed on UK Betting Ledger is assessed against the same structured set of criteria. We don't adjust our methodology per operator or alter assessments based on commercial relationships. The goal is to give a reader a genuinely useful comparison — not to generate the highest possible number of affiliate clicks.
Our scores are editorial assessments. They are not official ratings, not verified by regulators, and do not constitute endorsements. They are comparison tools, and should be read as such.
Product selection
Products are selected for inclusion based on whether they are UK-facing and whether we can conduct a meaningful editorial assessment. We aim to include a variety of product types and sizes — not only the largest operators. Products may be removed if we become aware of significant compliance concerns or if the operator ceases UK operations.
We do not verify UKGC licence status as part of our review process. We describe listed products as UK-facing betting platforms. Readers should verify regulatory status directly before registering.
Review criteria
We assess each product across eight areas. Each criterion is weighted in forming the overall editorial score:
Market coverage
Core criterionWe assess the breadth of sports covered and the depth of markets available within each sport. This includes major and secondary events, in-play availability, and whether the platform offers a reasonable range for less-mainstream sports.
Odds presentation
Core criterionHow clearly and consistently odds are displayed across the platform. Whether the interface helps users understand their selections, and whether formatting is consistent across markets.
Interface and navigation
Core criterionThe quality of the user experience: how easy it is to find markets, place bets, and navigate between sections. We consider both desktop and mobile navigation flows.
Mobile usability
Core criterionWhether the platform performs well on smartphones and tablets. We assess page load behaviour on slower connections, touch target sizing, and whether in-play functionality is preserved on mobile.
Bet builder and accumulator tools
Feature criterionWhere applicable: whether a bet builder is present, how well it handles multiple selections, and whether accumulator building is straightforward. Not all products offer this feature; we note absence rather than penalise heavily.
Payment options
Practical criterionThe range and practicality of deposit and withdrawal methods available to UK users. Includes standard banking options, e-wallets, and any notable limitations or minimum transaction requirements.
Terms transparency
Trust criterionWhether account rules, promotional conditions, and key restrictions are presented clearly before registration. We note where important conditions are buried or presented in ways that make them hard to find.
Responsible gambling provision
Trust criterionHow visible and functional responsible gambling tools are. This includes deposit limits, time limits, self-exclusion options, and links to support resources. We assess whether tools are easy to locate and use.
How scores are calculated
Each criterion is assessed qualitatively and given a sub-score. The overall editorial score is a weighted composite of these sub-scores, expressed on a 10-point scale. Scores are rounded to one decimal place.
We do not use automated scoring tools or AI-generated assessments as the basis for our scores. Assessments are made by our editorial team following hands-on review of the platform.
Score interpretation
Our scores are designed to vary meaningfully across products. A score of 8.0 or above indicates a product that performs well across most criteria. A score between 7.0 and 7.9 indicates a decent product with some notable limitations. Scores below 7.0 would typically indicate meaningful weaknesses across multiple criteria; we would generally not feature such products.
Scores are not absolute. A product with a higher score is not necessarily the right choice for a particular user. Individual requirements, preferred sports, and deposit preferences all affect which operator is most appropriate. We recommend reading full review notes rather than relying solely on the number.
Review updates
Reviews are written at a point in time. Operators change their products, terms, and features regularly. We update reviews when we become aware of significant changes that would materially alter our assessment. However, we cannot guarantee that all information is current at any given time. Always check directly with the operator before registering.
Editorial independence
We are commercially funded through affiliate commissions. As disclosed in our Affiliate Disclosure, this means we earn revenue when users visit operator sites via our links. This commercial relationship does not influence our editorial scores or the order in which products are presented.
No operator has the ability to pay to improve their score or their position on this site. Operators are not shown or consulted on our editorial content before publication.
What we don't review
- We do not review or assess odds value or likely returns
- We do not assess or verify the security of operator systems
- We do not assess payout speed beyond what is publicly stated by the operator
- We do not investigate individual account disputes or complaints
- We do not verify UKGC licence status as part of our standard review
